Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Position Overview
Postdoctoral Research Fellow – (Associate Scientist) in the Vaccine Modeling team within the Health Economic and Decision Sciences (HEDS) department. The role supports the development and deployment of ordinary differential equation and agent‑based models to simulate infectious disease spread, assess vaccine effectiveness, and evaluate key elements of vaccine trial designs.
Responsibilities- Explore current vaccine‑related structural assumptions and parametrization strategies used in dynamic transmission models.
- Investigate methodologies for uncertainty quantification and model selection with respect to vaccine‑related structural assumptions.
- Develop dynamic transmission models of infectious disease to evaluate the impact of different vaccine‑related structural assumptions.
- Develop and evaluate methods for model selection and uncertainty quantification within dynamic transmission models.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across partner teams and cross‑functional groups within the Research and Development Division.
- Collaborate externally, solicit input from stakeholders, and adopt latest techniques from relevant literature.
- Disseminate key research findings and methodology through scientific presentations at congresses and publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Minimum Requirements
- Currently hold a PhD or will receive a PhD by the start of employment in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Experience with mathematical modeling of complex dynamic systems.
- Experience working on interdisciplinary research projects and within interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to gather, organize, and synthesize complex information to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Strong creative problem‑solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience with dynamic transmission models of infectious disease.
- Experience with agent‑based model development and implementation.
- Experience with parameter estimation and identification.
- Background in economics and/or cost‑effectiveness analysis.
- Effective communication in English, both verbal and written.
Salary range: $71,900 – $113,200, based on education, experience, skills, location, and other factors. Eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentive, if applicable.
