Job Description

Primary

Purpose:

Maintains a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Protects all district facilities and grounds.

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Law Enforcement field
  • Experience in law enforcement or related security experience
Essential Functions
  • Monitors assigned areas of district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, criminal activity including unauthorized entry onto district property using available technology and regularly patrols assigned areas. Initiates appropriate action when a threat to the school environment exists.
  • Ensures the security of all buildings, classrooms, and security gates when areas are not occupied. Daily inspects doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure and promptly reports any repairs needed to address security issues.
  • Ensures all alarms are operational.
  • Monitors entrances to school property and ensures visitors comply with procedures for entering and properly registering their presence. Approaches and questions individuals for proper permits and authorization for use of or presence on school property.
  • Effectively uses non-violent crisis intervention and restraint techniques, anger management and conflict resolution skills as necessary.
  • Checks for proper operation of all boilers, fire systems, intrusion systems, rescue assistance systems, emergency generators, sump pumps, and chiller units. Notifies proper individuals when not operating properly. Acts as primary responder for alarm or trouble signals from each system.
  • Checks external lighting and reports those which are out or otherwise need repair.
  • Patrols parking and road areas to ensure compliance with parking rules and help maintain security of parked vehicles. Checks emergency access routes to ensure they are not blocked.
  • Fills out pertinent security forms in accordance with district procedure and policy. Reports security violations, parking or traffic violations, unauthorized usage of school property and unusual activity to appropriate person. In consultation with building administrator writes district notices or citations for violations according to district procedure.
  • Establishes or maintains existing online and hard copy filing systems appropriate for school security and in accordance with standardized records management procedures and so as to facilitate retrieval and access. Maintains classified or confidential materials in accordance with security procedures and transfers and discards files in accordance with established procedures and schedules. Maintains confidentiality with all District information, including District and school population information.
  • When assigned to be twenty-four hour on call, responds to emergency calls/investigates accident, theft, vandalism, and incident reports. Conducts follow-up investigations when appropriate.
  • Contacts and/or assists local law enforcement and emergency personnel when needed or while present on School district properties. Maintains good liaison between the district and law enforcement.
