Part-Time Safety Services Officer

Position Summary

Hours:

Monday - Friday 07:30 - 12:30 with occasional Saturdays

Under regular supervision, the Safety Services Officer is responsible for enforcing parking regulations, assisting motorists, directing traffic, assisting at fire alarms and other campus emergencies; staffing campus and special events, securing campus facilities, responding to lock‑outs, monitoring stationary posts, transporting students, and assisting the Campus Safety Police Officers when requested. Safety Services Officers are expected to interact with the York College community members in a professional and positive manner employing effective community service techniques.

Contributes toward the quality of life on campus by ensuring a stable environment in which security is balanced with freedom of movement on an open campus.

• Enforce campus parking regulations; issue citations and/or warnings as appropriate. (20%)
• Lock and unlock campus buildings and rooms. (20%)
• Assist at fires, fire alarms, and other campus emergencies. Respond to fire supervisory and trouble signals (15%)
• Transport students around campus, downtown, or to the hospital in a bus, van, or patrol vehicle (10%)
• Monitor stationary posts around campus as needed or directed (10%)
• Assist Campus Safety Police Officers, local law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies as directed (10%)
• Provide traffic and crowd control and direction for campus and special events, including athletic competitions, concerts, move‑indays, homecoming and commencement. (5%)
• Provide security escort services as requested (5%)
• Perform all other duties as assigned. (5%)

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must currently possess and have had a valid Driver’s License (of any class) for the least three (3) years.
• Must have an acceptable driving record and pass a background check.
• Prior security, law enforcement, public safety, transportation, and/or parking enforcement experience preferred.

• Excellent communication, customer service and writing skills.
• Ability to work on foot or drive for the duration of the assigned shift.
• Ability and willingness to work outside in inclement weather.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to make good decisions and follow directions.

• Must be able to work additional hours when requested which includes evenings and weekends for campus and special events or shift coverage.
