Public Safety Officer

Eastern University, a Christian university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, is seeking a full‑time Public Safety Officer. The role includes campus patrol, shuttle transportation, emergency response, and community engagement to promote safety and well‑being.

Position Responsibilities

Protect life and property and interfere with criminal activity through high‑visibility vehicular and foot patrol.

Maintain a log of all patrol activities.

Answer all calls via radio or telephone.

Provide shuttle transportation to rail stations and other assigned areas and maintain a passenger log.

Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety and expedite flow; enforce parking regulations.

Respond to emergency situations, including alarms, medical emergencies, and crimes in progress; summon municipal police, fire, and EMS assistance when required.

Identify, report, and resolve hazardous conditions; inspect buildings and property for proper maintenance.

Interact with the community and visitors, acting as a goodwill ambassador and rendering assistance where needed.

Administer first aid and CPR when necessary.

Investigate crimes, accidents, and other incidents; submit reports in accordance with procedures.

Secure and unlock campus buildings per schedules and procedures.

Provide Safe Walk escorts for members of the community and visitors.

Embodiment of care, compassion, justice, integrity, competence, and affirmation.

Act as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and report any crimes or incidents to the CSA.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Status:
Staff, non‑exempt, hourly, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.

Qualifications

High‑school diploma or GED and good work history.
Valid driver's license and at least one year of driving experience; clean driving record.
Ability to drive safely at night and in poor weather.
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel) and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Clearance through background investigation, including criminal records check and physical and/or psychological examination.
Follow instructions and work well with others.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sit or stand for prolonged periods, bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and carry.
Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Ability to talk, hear, and walk without assistance.
Ability to report for an assigned shift and perform duties for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
Demonstrated understanding and support of the university’s Christian mission.
