The Abington School District is seeking a full time School Police Officer pursuant to our School Board Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties

Patrol school grounds regularly to monitor for safety hazards, unauthorized access, or suspicious activity

Enforce school policies, local ordinances, and laws related to safety, traffic, and criminal activity

Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, or disturbances on campus using appropriate arrest procedures and conflict management techniques

Conduct investigations into thefts, vandalism, or other criminal acts utilizing evidence law and criminal investigation procedures

Provide first aid and CPR when necessary to assist injured individuals or during medical emergencies

Manage traffic flow around school entrances and exits, ensuring safe pedestrian crossings and vehicle movement

Maintain detailed reports on incidents, arrests, investigations, and daily activities following procedural law standards

Fulfills duties and responsibilities of school police officer and is at all times an employee of the Abington School District.

Provides security for school functions when needed. Works varying schedules when staffing issues exist.

Provides and maintains accurate records of incidents.

Appears and testifies at expulsion hearings and any local hearing at the District court.

Carries out duties and assignments designated by the Safety Coordinator, school building administration and District administration.

Helps train district staff as needed.

Provides direction and supervision to ASD security officers.

Investigates incidents that occur on school property.

Has the power of arrest.

Advises and participates in Crime Prevention.

Reports to the Safety Coordinator; but must work cooperatively with staff, building administration and District administration regarding safety and security. Report concerns to promote the safety and security of students, employees and others in the school environment.

Will be responsible for providing a monthly report to the Safety Coordinator and Central Administration.

The School Police Officer shall have the following responsiblities pursuant to policy:

The authority to enforce good order in school buildings and on school buses, including but not limited to, vehicles used under transportation agreements with third party contractors to transport students, on school grounds, at bus stops, and at school functions

The authority to exercise powers exercised under authority of law or ordinance by the municipal police of the legal entities comprising the District including but not limitedto:o The issuance of summary citations. The authority to detain individuals in school buildings, on school buses and onschool grounds until local law enforcement is notified.

To possess firearms while on duty providing and conditioned upon the school police officer having first successfully completed a training course in the useand handling of firearms, the requisite Act 120 Pennsylvania Municipal Police Education and Training, and submitting to annual municipal police training updates, annual firearms qualification, and any other training mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for continued certification as a police officer in the Commonwealth.

The authority to use reasonable force in accordance with Title 18 Pennsylvania Crimes Code Section 508, Use of force in law enforcement, Section 509.

To exercise all other powers conferred by the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas while on District property or operating in a District capacity
