Part-Time / Per-Diem School Police Officer
The Delaware Valley School District is seeking qualified, professional, and motivated individuals to serve as part-time/per-diem school police officers within the district. School police officers are responsible for helping maintain a safe and secure educational environment for students, staff, and visitors. Officers work collaboratively with school administrators, staff, students, parents, and local law enforcement agencies while maintaining a professional and approachable presence throughout the school district.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide a visible law enforcement and security presence within district schools and facilities.
- Protect the safety and welfare of students, staff, visitors, and school property.
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, safety concerns, and other incidents occurring on school property.
- Enforce applicable laws and assist school administrators with maintaining a safe and orderly educational environment.
- Conduct patrols of school buildings, grounds, parking areas, and other district property.
- Assist with traffic and crowd control during arrival, dismissal, athletic events, and other school activities.
- Investigate incidents and prepare appropriate police and incident reports.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, lockdowns, evacuations, and other school safety initiatives.
- Develop positive relationships with students and staff while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Coordinate and communicate with local, state, and other law enforcement agencies when necessary.
- Perform other school safety and law enforcement duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
- Current or previously held Pennsylvania Act 120 / MPOETC certification, or other qualifications acceptable under Pennsylvania law for appointment as a School Police Officer.
- Successful completion of National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) School Resource Officer training prior to employment.
- Ability to successfully complete all required background investigations and employment clearances.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- Ability to legally possess and carry a firearm.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the public.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency and high-stress situations.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, dependability, and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior municipal, state, county, campus, or school-based law enforcement experience.
- Previous School Police Officer or School Resource Officer experience.
- Previous experience working in an educational environment.
- Current CPR/AED, First Aid or other emergency medical training.
- Training in school-based emergency response, de-escalation, crisis intervention, or active-threat response.
Schedule:
This is a part-time/per-diem, as-needed position. Hours may include regular school days as well as occasional athletic events, extracurricular activities, special events, or other district needs outside of normal school hours (evening hours). The position may be particularly well suited for retired or experienced law enforcement officers seeking flexible part-time employment in a school environment.
Successful candidates must meet all applicable requirements for appointment as a Pennsylvania School Police Officer and complete all required employment clearances, background checks, training, NASRO certification, and court authorization, where applicable.
