E xcavation Foreman
AWG Excavating is a Douglassville, PA-based excavating contractor licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. AWG performs site excavation, concrete, paving, grading, remediation and restoration, clearing, and earthwork, as well as building stormwater management facilities and sanitary sewer systems.

company is currently owned by Kathy Toroney and Joshua Toroney, and we are a proud and growing woman-owned small business.
As an Excavation Foreman , you will be the on-site leader responsible for managing excavation crews, operating equipment, ensuring safety and productivity, and coordinating with site superintendents and project managers to deliver projects on schedule and within budget. This position is a balance of hands-on equipment operation, crew leadership, and project coordination.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Lead and supervise excavation/site crews on active job sites (3-5 crew members depending on project size).
Plan daily work activities and assign tasks to crew members based on project requirements.
Mentor, coach, and train less experienced operators and laborers to improve skills and efficiency.
Maintain strong communication with project managers, estimators, and company leadership.
Technical & Operational
Read site plans specifications to execute work accurately.
Use Trimble GPS rover to layout work.
Use Trimble GPS dozer for grading operations.
Operate heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, etc.) as needed.
Ensure accurate grading, cut/fill balance, and finish work to spec.
Oversee installation of underground utilities (stormwater, sewer, water, electrical conduit).
Supervise erosion control and environmental sitework measures
Monitor equipment use and coordinate with office for maintenance needs.
Perform minor mechanical repairs to equipment as needed.
Assist concrete crew in layout and prep.
Perform pipe layout and labor as needed.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company and OSHA safety standards on all job sites.
Conduct daily safety huddles and site inspections.
Ensure job sites remain clean, organized, and compliant with environmental requirements.
Project Execution
Coordinate delivery of materials, scheduling of subcontractors, and inspections.
Track daily production, material usage, and labor hours for reporting to management.
Identify and solve issues in the field quickly to keep projects moving.
Communicate clearly with inspectors, clients, and other contractors when necessary.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of excavation/sitework experience, with at least 2 years in a foreman, lead operator, or crew leader role.
Technical Knowledge:
Excavation and grading practices
Utility installation (storm, sewer, water)
Stormwater management and environmental compliance
Plan interpretation, grade setting, and cut/fill calculations
GPS machine control experience (preferred, not required)
Equipment Operation:
Proficient on excavators, dozers, loaders, and skid steers.
Leadership:
Strong ability to motivate, organize, and direct crews.
Communication:
Clear, professional communication skills with both crews and clients.
Safety:
Proven track record of enforcing and maintaining safe job sites. OSHA 30 Cert, preferred.
Credentials:
Valid driver's license required (CDL preferred).
