Of Work

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing diesel and construction equipment to support safe and reliable maintenance operations. You will be involved with troubleshooting, repairing systems, and ensuring vehicles and equipment meet safety and inspection standards. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Repair: Repair engines, transmissions, electrical components, and other systems on vehicles and construction equipment
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition
  • State Inspections: Perform official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
  • Diagnostics Work: Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical problems and determine the best repair methods
  • Field Adjustments: Make routine adjustments and minor repairs to support safe and efficient field operations
  • Inventory Support: Assist with maintaining equipment records and reporting damaged or missing parts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime, and irregular work hours may be required due to operational and/or seasonal needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607 (before taxes).

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
