The Construction Technician supports power line construction projects by installing, moving, and removing crane mats to ensure safe and efficient movement of heavy equipment through wetlands and woodlands. This role is hands-on, field-based, and requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining high safety standards and clear communication with equipment operators and crew members.

Responsibilities
  • Install, position, and move large crane mats (approximately 15 feet long and 8 feet wide) to support skid steers, drilling rigs, and other heavy equipment.
  • Work along a multi-mile power line construction corridor, setting crane mats at multiple locations, then returning to remove and reposition mats as the project progresses.
  • Align crane mats accurately, lock them together using pins, and unlock pins to adjust mat placement for safe equipment operation through woodlands and wetlands.
  • Ensure mats are placed to prevent heavy equipment from getting stuck in soft or wet ground conditions.
  • Lift and carry buckets of pins weighing up to 50 pounds as part of mat installation and removal activities.
  • Rake and level ground and soil after mats are moved, and apply grass seed and hay to restore disturbed areas.
  • Act as a spotter for equipment operators, maintaining safe distances and clear visibility around moving machinery.
  • Direct and communicate effectively with equipment operators and crew members to coordinate movements and ensure safe operations.
  • Perform general job site cleanup to maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work area.
  • Follow all construction site safety protocols and maintain situational awareness around heavy equipment and active work zones.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and consistent performance throughout the project duration.
  • Travel to multiple work sites across designated states as required by the project schedule.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience working on construction sites, with an understanding of typical site activities and safety practices.
  • Hands-on experience working around heavy equipment, ideally including skid steers, with the ability to describe the types of equipment used, project context, and time frames.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including rain and other elements.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday.
  • Comfort working on your feet all day, often on uneven and soft terrain in wetlands and woodlands.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to construction site safety protocols when working near heavy equipment.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with equipment operators and crew members on active job sites.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to work sites in New York, West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
