1st Class Electrician – Cabrini Campus

Posted 05/05/2026 – Closing Date 11:59 pm ET. Salary: $37.31 an hour (Union Grade).

Working hours:

Monday–Friday 7:30 am–4:00 pm; overtime may be required.

Position Summary

Under minimum supervision, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots campus‑wide power systems and building electrical systems, including medium (5‑35 kV) and low voltage (≤600 V) equipment, as well as related life‑safety systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building electrical equipment and fixtures according to manufacturer guidelines and accepted practices.
  • Install electrical fixtures, services, conduit, panels, motor starters, control panels, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, life‑safety, and fire‑safety systems (208 V, 480 V, single and three‑phase).
  • Perform preventive maintenance on residential and commercial electrical equipment.
  • Operate hand and power tools, handheld and mobile electronic devices, measuring and diagnostic meters, and instruments.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and sketches.
  • Perform carpentry, masonry, painting, and plastering work as required.
  • Coordinate repairs with other trades, offices, and departments affected by electrical operations.
  • Assist in furniture and event set‑ups, breakdowns, and decorations for special functions.
  • Perform additional duties within the scope of the department and individual capabilities.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus formal electrical trade training or licensure, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of building power supply and distribution systems; able to provide specifications, estimates, and bills of materials.
  • Current classification as Electrician 2nd Class, meeting all 2nd‑class qualifications.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the trade at Villanova University (subject to Facilities Management discretion).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows and Outlook skills.
  • Proficient with personal hand tools required for the trade.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑service skills; able to read and understand NFPA, ICC, and OSHA codes and guidelines.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs; ability to work in enclosed spaces.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • No disciplinary actions within the past 12 months.
  • Current ANSI/OSHA compliant training card to operate aerial lift, bucket truck, forklift, or other equipment.
  • Qualified to erect and work on scaffolding per OSHA standards.
  • Excellent safety record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 13 kV and 4 kV switch gear operation and inspection.
  • Knowledge of MV / LV switch gear and associated controls.
Physical Requirements
  • Climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Work in enclosed spaces.
