Avionics Technician
This role focuses on performing comprehensive avionics maintenance, repair, and installation work on helicopters, with a primary emphasis on AW139 aircraft. You will install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of avionics systems, including wire harness fabrication, in a professional FAA repair station environment. The position requires a hands-on technician who can work independently and as part of a team to support heavy maintenance and completion activities for a variety of aircraft platforms.
Responsibilities- Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of avionics systems on AW139 helicopters and other aircraft platforms as assigned.
- Carry out avionics maintenance and repairs in an FAA repair station environment, following all applicable regulations, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Fabricate, route, and terminate wire harnesses and associated electrical components to support avionics installations and modifications.
- Diagnose and resolve complex avionics issues using appropriate test equipment, technical publications, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Inspect, repair, and test avionics components such as transponders, navigation and communication systems, radar systems, DME, and related equipment.
- Support completion and modification projects by installing and integrating avionics equipment from manufacturers such as Garmin, Honeywell, and Cobham.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure accurate configuration, integration, and functionality of avionics systems.
- Document all work performed in accordance with FAA and company requirements, including maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Maintain and properly use personal basic tools and shop equipment to perform daily tasks safely and efficiently.
- Work overtime as needed to support maintenance schedules, aircraft delivery timelines, and customer requirements.
- Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards while working in a heavy maintenance and completion environment.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance on other helicopter and fixed-wing platforms, including Agusta Westland, Bell, Sikorsky, Airbus, Boeing, and various corporate and regional jets, as required.
- Minimum of 4+ years of recent, relevant avionics experience.
- Hands-on experience performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and installations in an FAA repair station environment.
- Strong avionics troubleshooting skills, including the ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in performing avionics repairs, overhauls, and system checks on helicopter platforms, particularly AW139 aircraft.
- Experience working with transponders, navigation and communication systems, radar systems, DME, and related avionics components.
- Ability to perform wire harness fabrication, including routing, termination, and testing.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime to meet operational needs.
- Ownership and use of a complete set of basic hand tools appropriate for avionics maintenance and installation work.
- Experience in a heavy maintenance environment, preferably involving complex completion and modification projects.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous relevant field experience with helicopters, especially Agusta Westland platforms, is highly preferred.
- Experience on Garmin, Honeywell, or Cobham avionics systems is a strong plus.
- Civilian aircraft experience, including exposure to corporate, commercial, or regional aircraft such as Falcon Jet, Honda Jet, Learjet, Phenom, Cessna, Citation, Bombardier, and Embraer, is preferred.
- Open to candidates with a mix of experience, including corporate, commercial, helicopter, or military backgrounds, provided there is FAA repair station experience.
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License with radar endorsement is preferred.
- FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with major helicopter and fixed-wing platforms such as Agusta Westland, Bell, Sikorsky, Airbus, Boeing, and Eurocopter is beneficial.
