Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor
Are you interested in using your masonry expertise to help others learn and build strong foundations as a Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor for the Department of Corrections? This position blends instruction, leadership, and hands-on skill building in a structured setting at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. You will guide inmates through safe and practical trade practices that prepare them for future opportunities.

This role provides structured classroom and hands-on training to inmates while supporting safe, organized, and productive work environments. The position combines instruction, supervision, and practical trade application to support daily operations. As a Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Instruction Delivery: Teach masonry practices, methods, and procedures through classroom lessons and hands-on training
- Work Supervision: Direct inmate work crews, maintain order, and review completed masonry assignments
- Training Records: Track inmate progress, attendance, and assignment details for all training activities
- Tool Management: Issue, inventory, and account for all tools and materials used in training and work projects
- Material Planning: Determine materials needed for masonry tasks and submit purchase requests when required
- Safety Oversight: Conduct searches, enforce safety rules, and support secure handling of tools and materials

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in laying brick, blocks, and other types of building materials, and binding with mortar to construct or repair walls; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the masonry trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the masonry trade.
Other Requirements:

- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
