Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor and help inmates learn a valuable automotive trade. This position provides structured instruction and supervision to inmates learning the automotive mechanic trade. The work supports vocational growth and the smooth operation of the facility. As a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Delivery: Teach inmates automotive inspection, repair, and overhaul techniques
• Classroom Order: Maintain discipline, structure, and safe practices during instruction
• Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews and inspect completed automotive assignments
• Tool Control: Issue, track, and search tools and materials used in training and work tasks
• Material Planning: Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for training and repair work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various components and systems used in automobiles, trucks, or construction or heavy equipment;
  or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade;
  or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the automotive mechanic trade.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Certificate issued by an approved provider.
• This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Emissions Inspection Certification and an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic certification for class C vehicles and any other class of vehicles used in the facility.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
