The Corrections Counselor 1 position at the State Correctional Institution at Fayette involves strengthening counseling skills while helping inmates build confidence and advance toward rehabilitation and community reintegration. The role supports inmate counseling, adjustment, and casework, playing a key part in rehabilitation and adjustment efforts.

• Counseling Support: Interview inmates and assist them with adjustment, conflict resolution, and personal concerns.
• Skill Development Guidance: Provide referrals and direction to build social, educational, and vocational abilities.
• Case File Management: Maintain documentation and prepare reports necessary for effective caseload management.
• Staff and Agency Communication: Share information with staff, families, and outside agencies to support inmate needs.
• Assessment Review: Examine evaluations, histories, and test scores to support programming recommendations.
• Reentry Coordination: Assist with community reintegration, identification of needs, and preparation of parole reports.

• Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
• Work hours:
  
  8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break.

• Salary:
  New employees beginning employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will start at a $55,436.00 annual salary before taxes.

• Minimum of 3 years and 6 months as a corrections officer and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; OR
• Bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; OR
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any of the aforementioned fields. Applicants within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits will be considered met.

• Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
• Successful completion of basic training at Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.

• Be able to perform essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
