Position: County Caseworker 1 (Local Government) - Jefferson County C&Y

Responsibilities
  • Case Investigation: assess reports of possible abuse or neglect through direct contact with children and families
  • Family Support: work with parents and caregivers to address safety needs and connect them with helpful resources
  • Community

    Collaboration:

    coordinate with schools, mental health providers, and other partners to support child well‑being
  • Court Participation: provide testimony and information in court to help ensure protection of children
  • Field Engagement: conduct regular in person visits to monitor child safety and progress
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
  • Telework: not available for this position
  • Each year of employment counts toward Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level coursework including 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor’s degree that includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in the aforementioned subjects and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar paraprofessional case‑management position
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree or credits
Other Requirements
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions
Legal Requirements
  • Must pass a background investigation
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance
