DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis entry level role works closely with caseworkers and other social service aides to provide services in the home to families with children. Work occurs after a caseworker has visited and determined which services are to be provided and is centered on one-on-one assistance in all areas of family life. Care and communication with families helps them work toward positive goals and outcomes.
As a County Social Services Aide 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Family Support:
Provide guidance with household budgeting, proper hygiene, nutrition, cooking, and shopping skills - Home Assistance:
Help families maintain safe, orderly, and effective living spaces and routines - Parenting
Skills:
Teach effective parenting skills in the home - Documentation Work:
Write a report of each appointment, pay close attention to details, manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and complete clerical duties as needed - Care Plan Communication:
Attend meetings with caseworkers to share important information about client progress that will help develop care plans, set goals, and coordinate services - Other Practical Aid:
This position may also transport children and families to supervised visitation and necessary appointments, provide childcare during appointments, or testify in court
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Possible after-hours appointments for supervised visitation and transportation.
- Possible travel requiring overnight stays.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:

- Graduation from high school; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
