Embedded Software Engineer, Software Engineer
Your Mission
The Embedded Systems department develops and produces the software and hardware components used to record food waste. It also manages the entire product lifecycle, from commissioning to maintenance and reconditioning. Our main goal is the smooth functioning and continuous development of TAREs.
As the head of the Embedded Systems department, a very varied job awaits you in our small team. You can lead and work independently in a wide variety of areas and take on responsibility. The dynamic start‑up environment offers you the opportunity to discover previously unknown things, to learn something new and to fully exploit your potential, in addition to classic engineering activities.
If you also consider yourself a professional tinkerer, you've come to the right place in our team.
The Embedded Systems department is a small team. So as a Head of this department a majority of our tasks will still be hands‑on but you will also be required to manage the team (1‑2 ES engineers), define the department strategy (short, mid, and long term) and targets in collaboration with our CTO, and manage department budget.
You will own the end‑to‑end reliability and evolution of our embedded systems, combining mechanical and electrical design with embedded software expertise to deliver robust, production‑ready solutions. You will drive continuous improvements to system reliability and functionality, leveraging modern IoT and fleet management tools to monitor and optimize an active device fleet. In this role, you will lead the development of test prototypes and test benches, oversee certification and compliance processes, and ensure all systems meet regulatory and quality requirements.
You will also collaborate closely with external suppliers and contract manufacturers to guarantee stable, high‑quality production, while providing operational support to maintain long‑term performance in the field.
- Team management experience (must have)
- + 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Completed degree in electrical engineering or similar
- Experience in embedded software development combining embedded Linux (Yocto), Python and Docker
- Experience with AWS and its interaction with an IoT device is an advantage
- Experience in PCB development (concept, schematic, layout, production preparation) as an advantage
- The onboarding process will be easier if you already have experience with our tools (KiCAD, Jira, Confluence, Git, Fusion 360)
- You like to plan and tackle your tasks independently in order to achieve the best results. At the same time, you never forget the big picture and like to think outside the box.
- You show a sense of responsibility and decisiveness in your work during the complete product lifecycle
- Good English skills (speaking and writing), German is a plus.
- A European Work Permit
- Preferred location:
Croatia or Germany
- A dynamic, action‑oriented work environment where you can make a real impact on food waste reduction.
- The chance to work with a passionate, innovative team that values experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Opportunities for personal growth and professional development within a purpose‑driven company.
- A supportive and open‑minded team culture, where every voice is heard, and we celebrate our successes (and learn from our failures) together.
- 55‑60K annual compensation.
