As our Backend Engineer
, you will build and scale the infrastructure powering nsave's financial services. Working closely with the CTO and engineering team, you'll own critical backend subsystems — from service architecture and reliability to security and compliance integrations — serving tens of thousands of users across multiple jurisdictions.

• Strong engineering fundamentals: You build and optimise software systems with solid knowledge of clean architecture, layered abstractions, and complexity tradeoffs
• Broad platform knowledge: You're comfortable across backend architecture, databases, site reliability, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD
• Security-minded: You can design and manage robust financial systems with high security and compliance requirements
• Business-oriented: Your technical decisions are informed by product and business context, and you know how to balance speed with quality

• Design, implement, and own critical infrastructure — including service architecture, reliability, build and release, and integration with compliance and banking services
• Proactively improve system health by identifying weak spots in the codebase and infrastructure, and prioritising fixes
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to ship features across multiple markets
• Contribute to engineering best practices, code quality, and process improvements as we scale

• Experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure roles
• Proficiency in backend languages and frameworks relevant to scalable financial systems
• Ability to operate independently and execute in fast-moving environments
• Experience in startups, fintech, or regulated environments is strongly preferred

This role is offered on a freelance / independent contractor basis. Contractors are not employees of nsave and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and statutory obligations.
