Cafeteria/Recess Monitor (Elementary)

FLSA: Non-exempt
Employee Group: Support Staff
Location: Elementary School will vary
Schedule: 10:45 am- 2:15 pm during school year, 10 months/180 days
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

Qualification and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
Job Goal

To establish and maintain a safe, clean, pleasant, and efficient atmosphere in the school cafeteria and at recess.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors students during assigned mealtimes in the cafeteria and recess, arrives promptly, ensures students return to next activity safely and on time, observes students to maintain safe, orderly environment, patrols assigned areas per procedures.
  • Helps ensure health and safety by following and enforcing school health, safety, and conduct rules; assists students with opening milk cartons and food packages.
  • Monitors and maintains reasonable noise level; ensures appropriate behavior toward staff and other students; uses positive reinforcement strategies.
  • At the start of each meal period, organizes students into lines for purchasing, directs to assigned tables, encourages completion within allotted period; at the end, organizes disposal of food waste and return of trays, oversees dismissal to class.
  • Resolves minor problems between students with fair firm strategies, calls for principal or designated teacher for any argument or physical altercation, treats all students fairly, impartially, and respectfully.
  • Communicates calmly, neutrally, non-confrontationally, at appropriate volume; models non-discrimination; participates in School wide Positive Support Plan.
  • Follows proper hand washing and glove usage procedures; maintains cleanliness in cafeteria and dining area; wipes tables; cleans and sanitizes tables for students with allergies with designated cleaners; cleans floors of spills or debris.
  • During recess, organizes and directs activities, ensures safe use of equipment, encourages sportsmanship.
  • Stays current on and complies with school rules; when working with students with disabilities, complies with individualized education program or Section 504 plan; interacts courteously with administration, staff, and students.
Additional Information

Employment Provisional: 90 days as required by ACT 168 of 2014. Submit ACT 168 form to all current and former employers where you had direct contact with children.

Final employment is contingent upon satisfactory review of all clearances and background checks as required by law.
