As a Driver License Examiner with the Department of Transportation, you will help protect the traveling public while supporting individuals who are ready for the next step in their driving journey. This role brings variety, purpose, and daily opportunities to make a positive impact. You will carry out testing that promotes responsible driving and strengthens community trust.
Support safer roads across Pennsylvania.
- Testing Oversight: Conduct vision, knowledge, pre‑trip, skills, and driving tests for non‑commercial and commercial applicants.
- Vehicle Evaluation: Review vehicle condition and verify that required equipment and safety features meet standards.
- Document Examination: Assess identity documents and applications for authenticity and signs of fraud.
- Customer Processing: Assist customers with licensing services, test results, applications, and issuance of products.
- Fraud Prevention: Access systems to verify identities and prevent the creation of false or duplicate records.
- Compliance Support: Follow all REAL , customer service, fee waiver, and Title VI requirements without exception.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours:
8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday – Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - Work overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers when needed.
- Telework: Not available for this position.
- Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (or equivalent Federal Government job title).
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
- Active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and age 21 or older at the time of application.
- No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five‑year period immediately preceding employment.
- Employees hired after February 28, 2022 must obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it thereafter.
- Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer will require submission of criminal history reports.
- Position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name‑Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
