The Fleet Service Attendant is responsible for providing daily maintenance and upkeep of all passenger vans in the central fleet. The incumbent prepares vans for daily use, including fueling and cleaning, checks all vehicle fluids, wipers, lights, and other safety equipment, transports vans to and from garages and body shops for repair, and performs basic cleaning and checks to the President’s vehicle.
The incumbent also assists in the Parking Office, including driving the University mobility shuttle, manages 2–5 student workers, and installs and maintains the Agile Fleet GPS tracking system in all vehicles and records maintenance details in the Agile Fleet Software.
- Prepare approximately 50 university fleet vans and the President’s vehicle for daily use, including fueling, cleaning, and checking vehicle fluids, tire condition, braking, lights, etc.
- Work closely with the Transportation Systems Specialist to coordinate scheduling of repairs, daily maintenance, and all other aspects of fleet vehicles.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs with the VU garage, dealership, and body shop.
- Manage and maintain the fleet GPS tracking system for all university vehicles.
- Monitor and analyze GPS data to support fleet operations, vehicle utilization, and safety initiatives; troubleshoot GPS tracking issues with the vendor.
- Coordinate the installation, removal, and transfer of GPS units as vehicles enter or exit the fleet.
- Follow all safety procedures and Fleet Policies; maintain and ensure all state and emissions inspections and insurance information is up to date.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle checklists, mileage, repair costs, GPS, fuel cards, and EZ Pass unit information.
- May be asked to fill in as a mobility driver when short staffed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of prior similar workplace experience or a similar campus environment is preferred.
- Must be able to operate a 12‑passenger van and possess a valid driver’s license, meeting certification as an approved driver through the Office of Risk Management.
- High attention to detail for tracking, scheduling, and documentation.
- Knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area.
- Experience with maintenance and upkeep of vehicles.
- Proficiency in Agile Fleet and MS Office (Excel), Teams.
Tools, machinery, and equipment used include patrol vehicle, utility cart, passenger van, two‑way radio, gas pump, citation issuing equipment, GPS tracking systems. Work outdoors for extended periods in all seasons; environmental conditions may include exposure to weather or extreme heat or cold. Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and both gross and fine motor skills. Visual, hearing, speaking, touching, and smelling sensitivities may be required.
SalaryThis position falls within hourly grade 11 and the range is $24.29 to $25.64 per hour. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
