You will drive a van on a set route, morning and afternoon, carrying students to and from school. Alongside driving, you are responsible for pre-trip inspections, keeping the vehicle within DOT requirements, checking the vehicle after every route, and managing student behavior safely.

No CDL required. We provide the training.$13.86 an hour

Part-time. Typically about 22.5 hours a week across a morning and an afternoon route

Core routes run Monday to Friday during the school day Summer work is available but not mandatory

Driving students in the Northern Cambria School District You do not need a CDL or previous driving experience. We train you.

What the job involves

You will drive a van on a set route, morning and afternoon, carrying students to and from school. Alongside driving, you are responsible for pre-trip inspections, keeping the vehicle within DOT requirements, checking the vehicle after every route, and managing student behavior safely.

Your day Morning route typically around 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Afternoon route typically around 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is a split shift with a break in between. That is about 4.5 hours of paid time a day.

Field trips, sports and activity runs are available on a rotational basis and are optional. They are paid at a separate activity rate.

What you needA valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

To be 18 or older

To be dependable about time and comfortable managing students

To pass an MVR, background check, clearances, a DOT physical and a drug screening

No CDL and no previous experience required. Paid training.

Moving up to a busVan drivers here can move into CDL training and drive a full-size bus, which pays more. The company pays for licensing and permit fees.

What happens after you apply

Driving students is a regulated job, so hiring takes longer than most part-time work.

An MVR review (You will receive a separate email to upload a photo of your driver’s license)
State and federal background checks

Child abuse clearanceA DOT physical and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Federal fingerprinting

Training and orientation before your first route, about 8 hours, completed while clearances are processing

Most candidates go from application to start in 2 to 2.5 weeks.
