Operations & Community Engagement Fellow

Equality Florida is the state's largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. We're changing Florida through lobbying, grassroots organizing, education, and coalition building — so that no one suffers harassment or discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Since our founding in 1997, we've become one of the largest statewide LGBTQ groups in the country with more than 400,000 supporters, more than 15,000 volunteers, and staff located in major Florida cities to organize and support our work.

The Operations & Community Engagement Fellow is:

  • A passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ equality in Florida
  • Committed to intersectional justice and supporting vulnerable communities
  • A collaborative problem-solver who thrives at the intersection of technology, operations, and community building
  • Patient and skilled at translating technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Energized by systems-building work that creates lasting organizational impact

Key Responsibilities:

Cybersecurity Implementation & IT Support
  • Work directly with staff members across all age groups and technical proficiency levels to implement organizational cybersecurity measures, ensuring all team members understand and adopt security best practices
  • Develop and deliver accessible training materials and one-on-one support sessions that meet staff where they are in their technical journey
  • Serve as a responsive, patient resource for staff technology questions and concerns
Pride Membership Engagement Assistance
  • Research, evaluate, and track Pride events across Florida to determine which events align with Equality Florida's Tier 1 Pride program engagement strategy
  • Assist in coordinating logistics for Tier 1 Pride event participation, including staff scheduling, registration processes, and vendor coordination
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and event organizers to ensure smooth collaboration and successful event execution
  • Collect and organize data from Pride engagements to inform future event strategy and measure community impact
Community Engagement Assistance
  • Design and implement systems and tools that strengthen the volunteer experience, from recruitment through retention, ensuring volunteers feel valued and connected to our mission
  • Develop processes that enhance member engagement and deepen relationships with Equality Florida's membership base
  • Create tracking mechanisms and databases to maintain organized records of volunteer and member interactions
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication, recognition, and engagement touchpoints throughout the volunteer and member lifecycle
  • Collaborate with program staff to align community engagement efforts with organizational priorities and campaigns

Professional Experiences and Background:

  • Technical proficiency with common software platforms, device configuration, and troubleshooting — the Fellow will be supporting staff with varied technical backgrounds and must be comfortable with both Mac and PC environments
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in training, teaching, or technical support roles — particularly in contexts requiring patience and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience or strong interest in non-profit operations work — including project coordination, event logistics, database management, or volunteer coordination
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail — the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — both written and verbal, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders
  • Self-directed work style with collaborative instincts — comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask questions and seek support

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, and common communication platforms; willingness to learn new software systems quickly
  • Experience with database management, volunteer coordination platforms, or CRM systems preferred but not required
  • Candidates must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to advancing Equality Florida's goals and objectives

What Else You Should Know:

  • The position is temporary, part time and the applicant can live anywhere in Florida.
  • The compensation for this position is $15/hour
  • This position will be expected to work 10 hours per week.
  • Equality Florida offers benefits, including full medical and dental coverage, generous paid time off, and retirement benefits.
  • The Operations & Community Engagement Fellow is expected to begin September 9th, 2026 with a tentative end date of November 13th, 2026.
