The Construction Layout Technician is responsible for accurately interpreting construction plans and performing site layouts to guide building and infrastructure projects. This role involves the use of surveying instruments (such as total stations, GPS, and levels) to mark reference points, lines, and elevations on construction sites. The technician ensures all layout work aligns with engineering designs, project specifications, and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform various construction layout and data collection tasks including setting up and operating various surveying instruments, such as robotic total stations, automated layout solutions (i.e. HP Site Print, Dusty Robotics), laser scanners, and aerial drones.
- Layout scope will include interior and exterior walls, windows, doors, finishes, prefabricated wall panel systems.
- Help maintain equipment and ensure it is in proper working condition.
- Able to read and understand construction plans.
- Work as part of a BIM and Field Technology Team to support construction divisions.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred)
- Experience performing traditional construction layout, robotic construction layout or as an instrument man or party chief in the field of Land Surveying.
- Part 107a Aerial Drone License (preferred)
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have good communication skills (phone, text, in-person)
- Must have the physical ability to perform fieldwork and lift heavy objects ranging from 20 lbs. up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent travel is required
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction layout, surveying construction staking, or other related techniques.
- Ability to use robotic layout equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
