This position provides General Education Development (GED) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes for incarcerated individuals at all Escambia County Correctional Facilities. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching various subjects, maintaining accurate attendance records, and preparing students for the GED diploma.

• Provides classroom instruction in basic education subjects, including career planning, social adjustment, and general life skills information
• Provides conversational English lessons, ideas, and customs in English to students with limited English proficiency, as needed
• Maintains records, including testing, daily inmate work, and attendance
• Evaluates and maintains student academic progress
• Performs other duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least two years of relevant teaching experience; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator’s certificate. Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within twelve months of hire.

• Two years of experience working and/or teaching in correctional facilities or other at-risk populations

Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
