POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Advisor II will work with students to facilitate successful and timely degree completion by monitoring student progress and providing information regarding curriculum policies, procedures, and guidelines for the degree programs that are advised. The advisor will also identify students who are experiencing academic difficulty and develop strategies for success in partnership with the student. The advisor is responsible for assisting students with reviewing degree plans, course registration, maintaining advising records, and other duties related to student success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate area of specialization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 2 years of appropriate experience or Master's Degree.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES
  • 80% - With general supervision – The successful candidate will use a learning-centered approach to advising that enhances students’ decision- making skills and contributes to the development of students’ intellectual and personal growth; will be knowledgeable of and provide students with the resources, support, and opportunities available to make informed decisions, enhance their educational experience, and promote student success; will provide students with accurate information about degree requirements and institutional and departmental policies and procedures;

    will encourage students to participate in learning opportunities outside of the classroom setting; will develop realistic educational plans that meet the needs, goals, and interests of individual students; will accurately and efficiently document interactions with students and students’ progress toward meeting educational, personal, and professional goals using adopted software programs; will use multiple forms of media to communicate with students (e.g., email, telephone, fax, video calls);

    will demonstrate efficient and effective use of technology; will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills; and will maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA guidelines. Develop structured feedback for students by using university/college technology platforms (i.e. banner, campus, degree works, tableau, etc.) - (Essential)
  • 10% - Communicate and Collaborate with appropriate individuals and offices across the university; responsible for advising related training; and/or managing advising assistants or others.

  • 5% - Seek development through on-campus workshops/training and/or professional organizations and other advising-related duties that support the mission of the college and institution.

  • 5% - Responsible for special projects, program reporting tasks, and/or responsibility for specific business processes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical Requirements: Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely results would be cuts, bruises, etc.
