POSITION OVERVIEWJOB SUMMARY:
The Department seeks a qualified adjunct instructor to teach undergraduate botany courses with emphasis on aquatic botany and laboratory components. This position may be offered in face‑to‑face or online format, depending on departmental needs and instructor capabilities. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction that engages students in both theoretical concepts and hands‑on laboratory experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate botany courses including general botany and aquatic botany
- Design and deliver comprehensive laboratory exercises that complement lecture material
- Develop course syllabi, learning objectives, and assessments in accordance with departmental standards
- Supervise and ensure safe laboratory practices and procedures
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and academic performance
- Provide timely feedback and maintain regular office hours or virtual availability for student consultation
- Participate in departmental meetings and assessment activities as required
- Adapt teaching methods appropriately for face‑to‑face or online delivery as assigned
- Master's degree in Botany, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Aquatic Biology, or closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in botany, including plant anatomy, physiology, taxonomy, and ecology
- Strong background in aquatic botany, including freshwater and/or marine plant communities
- Experience designing and conducting laboratory exercises in botany or related biological sciences
- Teaching experience at the college or university level
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Botany, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Aquatic Biology, or closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in botany, including plant anatomy, physiology, taxonomy, and ecology
- Strong background in aquatic botany, including freshwater and/or marine plant communities
- Experience designing and conducting laboratory exercises in botany or related biological sciences
- Teaching experience at the college or university level
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Ph.D. in Botany, Plant Biology, Plant Science, Aquatic Ecology, or closely related discipline
- Previous experience teaching aquatic botany courses
- Experience with online course delivery and learning management systems
- Familiarity with current pedagogical best practices in science education
- Research experience in aquatic plant ecology, freshwater biology, or related areas
- Knowledge of regional aquatic flora and ecosystems
- Physical Requirements: Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely results would be cuts, bruises, etc.
