Full Time Equivalent: 40 hours per week/44 or 52 weeks per year

  • $16.57/hour:
    Teachers with an Associate Degree – Early Childhood Education
  • $18.83 /hour:
    Teachers with a Bachelor Degree – Early Childhood Education

Experience / Credentials: Minimum one year of experience working with young children, ages 3 to 5, and some supervisory experience is also required. Applicants must meet all Department of Children and Families requirements for employment and must be able to successfully complete the forty-five hours childcare training.

Job Description: The primary responsibility of our Head Start teachers is implementing a comprehensive early childhood development classroom as defined by Head Start Performance Standards, in collaboration with a team of staff, families, and community partners. Our Head Start teachers are expected to:

  • Plan and provide learning opportunities to students which support growth in the areas of cognition, early literacy and language, social development, play skills, fine and gross motor development, fine arts, adaptive/self-care skills, health, and nutrition.
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate and ongoing assessment of student progress.
  • Follow Head Start and CAPC agency policies for referring children for further diagnostic evaluation when necessary.
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis via home visits, parent conferences, written materials, and informal personal and telephone contacts.
  • Promote and model good health and nutrition practices to children and families.
  • Monitor the health and safety of students while at school.
  • Use appropriate guidance strategies to help children learn socially acceptable behavior.
  • Maintain written reports and records as required
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with students, families, colleagues, and community members that will promote effective communication and collaboration.
  • Actively seek to involve parents and families in the educational process and development of their children.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of students and families
  • Provide appropriate work direction and oversee the daily responsibilities of the Head Start teacher assistants and classroom volunteers.
  • Participate in required staff meetings and staff development opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge in current trends and research in the field of early childhood education.
  • Select and order necessary classroom supplies and materials as provided in the classroom budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: This position requires the employee to be actively involved with children at all times. Requires standing for long periods of time while working in the classroom and on the playground. Moderate to vigorous physical activity is required throughout the day. The employee must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, hop, and skip and are expected to sit on the floor with children during circle time and center time.

The employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. This position may require the employee to ride a school bus.
