Full Time Equivalent

40 hours per week/44 or 52 weeks per year.

Salary

$15.45 per hour.

Education and/or Experience
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Teacher Assistants must have a national Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or a Florida Child Care Professional Certification (FCCPC) – or be enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree – or enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within one year of hire.
Experience / Requirements
  • Prefer applicants have a minimum of one-year experience working with children birth to five.
  • Must meet all Department of Children and Families requirements for employment and successfully complete the forty‑five‑hour childcare class.
Job Summary

Reporting to the Center Director or classroom Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for helping to implement the daily classroom schedule. Supervising and guiding children, preparation of supplies, handling issues and planning jointly with the Teacher are among the major responsibilities. The Teacher Assistant works with the Teacher in actively supervising and ensuring the safety of all children in the classroom.

In the absence of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant may temporarily assume the duties of the teacher. This position may float to other classrooms as needed for coverage.

Physical Demands

This position requires the employee to be actively involved with children at all times. The employee must stand for long periods in the classroom and on the playground, and moderate to vigorous physical activity is required throughout the day. The employee must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, hop, skip, and sit on the floor with children during circle time and center time.

The employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. The position may require the employee to ride a school bus.
