Job Overview
Teaching and advising positions for a Cosmetology program at Pensacola State College. This role focuses on delivering occupational skills, ensuring safety, and fostering a productive learning environment.
Responsibilities- Assist and follow all curriculum and be a team player.
- Teach occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with competence to become skilled in their field and to secure a job in their new career.
- Demonstrate occupational materials, tools, equipment, and processes using standard and/or instructor-prepared aides per state requirements.
- Instruct students in appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools and equipment per state requirements and manufacturer.
- Control the storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
- Establish and maintain standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in a hands‑on activity classroom setting.
- Report to the program director, Kimberly Markwick, and the Department Head, Applied Technology and Professional Services.
- Be available to teach five days a week.
- Graduation from an institution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the College with a Cosmetology Certification/License.
- Licensed in the field of Cosmetology for at least six years, or a two‑year degree with four years’ experience, a four‑year degree with two years’ experience, or a master’s degree with one year experience.
- Proficiency with various hair types and textures, and proficiency in haircutting, chemical services, hair arranging services, facials, manicuring/pedicuring, makeup application, and waxing services.
- Must have a clear understanding of OSHA and sanitization rules and regulations, plus job safety.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Prior teaching experience is preferred, not required.
- Must undergo a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check and comply with §435.04(2), Florida Statutes.
