The PositionThis position reports to the Gulf Manager. The Field Technician is responsible for maintenance and operation of a utility-scale PV power plant, including monitoring plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems (inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switch gear, trackers, metering). The role also supervises contractors to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely maintenance activities in the field.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to company and client protocols, safety procedures, and regulations; comply with safety requirements (lock-out/tag-out, JHA, and company safety policies).
- Attend and pass all assigned safety, environmental, and other training.
- Understand electrical safety, local and national electrical codes, and arc flash standards.
- Proficient understanding of electrical schematics and electrical principles.
- Maintain integrity and follow Arevon safety policies and procedures.
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance for solar PV systems.
- Perform onsite installations, repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct site root analysis and apply root-cause analysis techniques for major and recurring faults.
- Investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical reports.
- Collaborate with internal Arevon teams to collect and produce data for agency-required reporting (NERC, EPA, OSHA, etc.).
- Create and follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Perform testing, switching, and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage equipment (transformers, breakers, relays, contractors, motors, trackers, DC arrays, inverters, etc.).
- Retrieve relay files and submit to engineering for review.
- Assist with writing and enforcing work and equipment testing instructions and procedures, including normal and maintenance operating procedures.
- Ensure CMMS work orders are complete; prepare documents for procurement and vendor services.
- Conduct testing using IV Curve Tracers, Power Quality Meters, Insulation Resistance Testers, Multimeters, and related equipment.
- Maintain tracking of quality, quantity, and stock levels of materials on site.
- Demonstrate computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office).
- Prioritize multiple tasks and projects; work independently and be accountable with critical thinking.
- Communicate cross-functionally to resolve plant issues.
- Maintain site cleanliness and work area standards.
- Be available for night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
- Support additional job responsibilities as needed; occasional travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 3 years of direct experience as a PV solar technician or 6 years in a non-solar electrical maintenance role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable MVR history.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills to work with technical and non-technical colleagues and vendors.
- Ability to wear PPE (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, arm guards).
- Mobility to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods; may lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Commitment to safety standards and procedures.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call for emergencies.
- Successful pre-employment drug screen; random drug screening for active employees in this role.
- CEC license or technical degree; electrical certifications (state, journeyman) are a plus.
- Experience operating and maintaining power plant electrical systems, SCADA and controls systems, troubleshooting advanced electrical components, and performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems for maintenance tracking.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technology.
