Principal Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools per code requirements and IMEG standards
- Partner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build and maintain strong working relationships
- Support consulting project execution as part of a project team, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress (percent complete and fee expended)
- Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
- Perform in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirements
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with mechanical systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, and project managers) to deliver integrated solutions aligned to project goals
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
