Job Description

Salary range: $80,000.00 - $90,000 annually, depending on knowledge and experience.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Surveying and Mapping, Geomatics/Geomatics Engineering, and Land Surveying;
  • Seven (7) years of experience in professional land surveying, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Possession of a valid Florida Professional Surveyor and Mappers' License.
    • Possession of an appropriate driver's license for equipment operated and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
    Special Requirements:
    • Serves as emergency critical staffing during and after any emergency management event.
    JOB SUMMARY
    The City Surveyor performs professional and technical work in the field of land surveying. Under the direction of the City Engineer, an employee in this position manages, directs, and meets the daily professional survey activities and needs of the City. This employee will function as the City surveying expert through project permitting, development, and performance of professional surveying services. Work objectives will be assigned and results reviewed and evaluated by the City Engineer.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Manages City surveying programs, projects, and operational activities and maintains survey control monuments
    • Reviews development applications, permits, plats, and legal descriptions for accuracy and compliance
    • Serves as liaison and represents the City with staff, external partners, and at public meetings/events
    • Ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and standards
    • Performs land surveying duties, including boundary determination, deed interpretation, and map certification
    • Provides construction support, including layout/elevation verification, site plan review, and inspections
    • Supports the Stormwater Division of the Public Works and Engineering Department in field survey of stormwater ponds, stormwater piping, field verification of stormwater maintenance activities and updating stormwater mapping to reflect as-built conditions
    • Performs other related duties as assigned

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    :
    • Knowledge of Florida land surveying principles, practices, and methods, as well as applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and statutes related to surveying.
    • Knowledge of managerial and project management principles and practices as needed to manage projects through delegating and prioritizing work assignments.
    • Knowledge of computer and related software applications as needed to perform surveying computations and prepare associated documents.
    • Knowledge of commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility construction practices in line with industry-standard techniques used in surveying.
    • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and make recommendations in support of City goals.
    • Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of others.
    • Ability to utilize interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with employees, outside contractors, supervisor, and the general public, sufficient to exchange or convey information or receive and give work direction.
