Accountant
The Accountant assists in the financial administration and oversight of College funds in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and procedures; supports budgeting, reporting, compliance, and financial transaction review; and performs additional duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage College funds, ensuring compliance with contracts, budgets, spending requirements, and expected outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and files pertaining to financial and related information for the various College funds.
- Prepare financial and related reports as required by the District Board of Trustees, external agencies, and federal and state regulations.
- Prepare budget amendments and journal entries to maintain accurate accounting records.
- Review and approve purchase requisitions, budget amendments, travel authorizations, check requisitions, personnel costing, and other financial transactions.
- Reconcile accounts, research discrepancies, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear correspondence.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Possess proficiency in database software, payroll systems, spreadsheet programs, and word processing software.
- Operate standard office equipment, including a desktop computer, copier machine, printers, and calculators.
- Apply advanced mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, and numerical reconciliation.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Graduation from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Successful results of a criminal background check; meeting the requirements of §435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.
- Completion of a background check approved by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement; failure to disclose adverse information at the time of application will disqualify the candidate.
