Volunteer Peer ProgramOur Volunteer Peer Program allows individuals seeking a CRPS Certification to gain experience and volunteer hours toward that goal. To qualify, a candidate must be working with NAMI to earn a CRPS credential and must possess strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to follow directions, and the ability to ask clarifying questions. Volunteer assignments are subject to supervisory capacity and placement is not guaranteed.
Volunteers provide peer‑based support to others with similar lived experiences, using their professional preparation to mentor, monitor, and motivate peers toward recovery. Positions are undertaken by individuals who have completed Helping Others Heal and WRAP certifications, applying theory studied through coursework or certifications. Prospective volunteers should demonstrate competency for the program and readiness to apply and develop these skills during the volunteer period.
- Adhere to dress and behavior guidelines.
- Participate in all approved activities structured by the volunteer supervisor.
- Complete, sign, and submit all documentation as directed by the volunteer supervisor by the requested deadline.
- Communicate with the volunteer supervisor throughout the experience, especially if concerns or problems need to be addressed.
- Evaluate and share information about the volunteer experience.
- Comply with the policies and procedures of Lakeview Center, Inc.
- Meet established criteria of the volunteer placement (e.g., do not seek placement with family members; good attendance).
- Comply with training requirements.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the volunteer site.
- Cooperate with the volunteer supervisor; engage in the program as a learning experience; observe business etiquette; and abide by safety rules.
- Demonstrate honesty, punctuality, respect, courtesy, cooperative attitude, and a willingness to learn at the volunteer site.
- Remain at the assigned volunteer placement for the duration of the volunteer period except by mutual agreement of all parties.
- Maintain confidentiality guidelines.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Lived an experience in at least one of the following areas:
- As an adult who has been in recovery for a minimum of two (2) years from a substance use or mental health condition.
- As a family member or caregiver to another individual who has or is in recovery from substance use or mental health condition.
- As a veteran of the armed forces who has been in recovery for a minimum of two (2) years from a substance use or mental health conditions.
- Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.
