Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

Location:

Naval Health Pensacola, FL (Naval Hospital Pensacola).

Employment Type:

Full Time. Work hours will normally be between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with a 1‑hour unpaid lunch break. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The contractor employee shall not exceed 40 hours per week.

Position Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides comprehensive anesthesia care services for patients undergoing surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetrical procedures at Naval Health Pensacola, FL. The CRNA is responsible for conducting patient assessments, developing anesthesia care plans, administering anesthesia, monitoring patient responses, and ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia in accordance with established standards of care and privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Credentials Committee.

Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Graduate of an academic program approved by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification through:
    • American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), or
    • National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Licensure
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the patient anesthesia experience, including performing preoperative evaluations and preparations.
  • Administer monitored anesthesia care, regional anesthesia, and general anesthesia.
  • Monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgical procedures.
  • Manage fluid therapy and perform invasive monitoring as required.
  • Conduct post-operative evaluations in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF Credentials Committee.
  • Perform pre‑anesthetic assessments and evaluations of patients, including obtaining informed consent, requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, and ordering pre‑anesthetic medications.
  • Develop and implement individualized anesthetic plans of care.
  • Conduct assessments immediately prior to induction of anesthesia, including review of medical records, laboratory data, medication administration, and any changes in patient condition.
  • Review previous anesthetic experiences and complications documented in the patient’s medical record.
  • Maintain patient physiologic homeostasis and correct abnormal responses to anesthesia and surgical procedures.
  • Collect and interpret patient physiological data using invasive and noninvasive monitoring modalities.
  • Manage patient airway and pulmonary status throughout anesthesia care.
  • Manage patient emergence and recovery from anesthesia by maintaining homeostasis, controlling pain, minimizing anesthesia side effects, and preventing complications.
  • Select, obtain, order, and administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and ventilatory support as necessary.
  • Accurately document all pertinent anesthesia‑related events, including dosages and duration of anesthetic agents, medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and patient responses.
  • Complete post‑anesthetic evaluations and document the presence or absence of anesthesia‑related complications.
