Summary/ObjectiveThe Groundskeeper Trainee will work closely with Head Groundskeeper. Position requires minimal supervision and many times working alone. Assist in all aspects of grounds management that are included in scope of work.

Essential Functions

Assist the Head Groundskeeper as directed to:
  • Operating heavy Equipment, such as mower, tractor, spray rig, heavy duty utility vehicles
  • Maintain bullpens to Major League Baseball Standard
  • Assist in edging, painting, infield clay work, various turf management cultural practices.
  • Assist in development and implementation plans for emergency response due to inclement weather i.e., hurricane, tornado, or other catastrophes
  • Field(s) set up and take down. Ensure that fields meet all criteria as set forth by Major League Baseball and Minnesota Twins rules
  • Implement the use of an environmentally sound pest management program that includes Integrated Pest Management
  • Maintain impeccable records of all actions taken to manage identified pests/Abatement or applications
  • Ensure performance of all work in a safe manner for the employee, subordinates, students and others that use the facilities
  • Achieves both company and client's program integrity at high quality standards
  • Other duties as assigned by ownership and management and as opportunities arise
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Skilled in written (report writing) and oral communication (public speaking)

2. Ability to operate athletic field/grounds management related equipment

3. Ability to work flexible and/or unscheduled hours

4. High customer service and quality attitude

5. Ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives

6. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities

7. Ability to maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment

8. Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership

Education and Experience

Minimum of an Associate's degree in Agronomy/Horticulture related field or equivalent certificate. Two years' experience in managing high profile athletic fields preferred, but not required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Days and hours will vary to include evening and weekend work according to business needs.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position includes the ability to walk and stand for an extended period of time, lift up to 40-50 pounds, and the use of lawn maintenance equipment.
