Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Safety Specialist
Occupational health and safety specialists and technicians collect data on, analyze, and design improvements to many types of work environments and procedures. Specialists inspect workplaces and enforce adherence to regulations on safety, health, and the environment.
The safety specialist role is one that is focused on providing a strong field presence around personal safety. The candidate for this role ideally has several years of safety experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical manufacturing. We are also requiring a 4-year degree for the role.
This role is mostly focused on compliance with OSHA standards. They need to have experience with performing field safety audits. Hopefully audits of life critical procedures similar to ours; lock out/tag out, hot work, confined space entry. To go with the experience of auditing, they need to have the soft skills to coach and interact with employees at all levels.
They also need to have experience delivering safety-related training to employees. This could be through new hire training or just recurring regulatory training. Also, experience with incident investigations is a plus. Basic computer skills are required (word, PPT, excel). If they have experience with maintaining policies/procedures for their facility, that is a plus.
Key responsibilities include demonstrating leadership and influence in driving corporate zero-incident safety culture through safe work practices and operator engagement. They will manage SDS information and the Hazard Communication program, conduct PPE, ergonomic and health risk assessments and exposure monitoring. They will maintain job physical requirements and conduct physical assessments for the site as may be required. They will support incident and near miss investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and follow-up.
They will provide technical expertise and consultation on pre-job planning, accident prevention, regulatory compliance, job safety analysis, hazard management, behavior modification, site safety work permitting, and auditing programs. They will provide trend analysis from observations, incidents, near misses, audits, inspections and training. They will create modules and deliver employee safety and health training. They will execute compliance/improvement strategies and effectiveness follow-up.
They will support contractor safety program training and initiatives. They will interface with regulatory agencies.
