Overview
This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Air Station, Pensacola FL. The incumbent will perform preparations in an assigned area prior to opening the dining room, familiarize with the menu, record selections from guests, and turn them into the kitchen. Serves dishes and beverages. Clear completed meals, clean tables and the immediate area, and reset the table in preparation for the next guest.
Must meet minimum age requirements.
- Performs necessary preparations in the assigned area prior to opening the dining room, such as setting the tables with cloths, silverware, glasses, condiments, napkins, and decorations.
- Prepares back-up tables with items such as butter, ice, coffee, fruits, juices, salads, and breads.
- Must be familiar with the menu for the day, offer suggestions if requested, record desired selections from guests, and turn in the order for preparation to the kitchen.
- Serves side dishes such as salads, fruit dishes, bread, wine, or other beverages.
- When the meal is completed, clears and cleans the table and immediate area, and resets the table for the next guests.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Must meet Federal employment suitability requirements and successful completion of a background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- A valid State driver s license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- This position may sell alcoholic beverages. Must be at least 18 or older to meet minimum age requirements.
- Work requires the use of both arms, hands, and legs, and involves prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and light lifting. Normally handles objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.
- Work is normally performed inside with adequate lighting and heat. Waiters are exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and slippery floors when in the kitchen area.

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above is required. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression and must demonstrate the following:
- Skill to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence.
- Knowledge of proper food handling techniques such as the correct side to serve from and the correct side to remove from.
- Knowledge of the composition of all menu items, including American or Foreign items; knowledge of available beverages and wines and appropriate serving temperatures.
- Skill in proper table setting techniques. Knowledge of simple math calculations to tabulate checks.
- Ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience. You must clearly identify duties and responsibilities in each position and the total number of hours per week. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. Volunteer work helps build competencies and can translate to paid employment.
