Overview
The Aircraft Mechanic I is responsible for providing repair services on assigned airframe/aeronautical components and performing approved repairs. The ability to produce quality work under non-negotiable deadlines is part of this position.
Essential Responsibilities- Uses schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications in operating, testing, removing, troubleshooting and replacing aircraft system components.
- Complies with the requirements of the FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and safety programs.
- Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections; performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
- Performs jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in maintenance records description of the work performed, verifies the work was completed satisfactorily; may service engines and airframe components at line station, make repairs short of overhaul; may specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair.
- Performs aircraft conditional inspections including, but not limited to, 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections; examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves.
- Performs all required aircraft servicing tasks.
- Operates and inspects ground support equipment and documents/reports discrepancies prior to use.
- Performs all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
- Orders parts and supplies as needed.
- Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, company policy, and other maintenance directives as required.
- Identifies and documents aircraft discrepancies on appropriate forms.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Participates in towing and movement of aircraft in performing maintenance activities.
- Removes, installs, opens, closes, aircraft equipment and panels as required.
- All other duties as assigned within classification.
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum two years of Aircraft Mechanic experience.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required licensing, certification, qualification, or clearance.
- A working knowledge of aircraft systems and the use of common aircraft hand tools and special tools is required.
- Thorough understanding of Company processes and operations. Basic computer skills. Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate communication and behavior. Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a high-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to judge and make decisions quickly and accurately. Flexibility, ability to learn new concepts quickly.
- Knowledge of technical documents such as technical bulletins and alert service bulletins.
- Completion of specialized courses is desired.
- The ability to read and write and to comprehend technical data is required.
- Ability to use hand tools and equipment/machinery.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
- A&P Preferred
- Capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods.
- Must be capable of performing tasks in cramped, awkward, and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.
