Mechanical Craft Worker

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs semi-skilled work as the second member of a maintenance crew assisting a higher skilled trades person in the accomplishment of industrial plant mechanical maintenance.  Initially, work assignments may, general maintenance activities performed under close supervision (depending upon the employee's prior experience). As the employee becomes more experienced, assignments more complex and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists journey level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, large horsepower gear boxes and mixers, bar screens, conveyor belts, slurry pumps and chemical feed pumps.

Participates in the repair of mechanical equipment used in the wastewater industry, Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and compost facility.

Performs maintenance and repair work of a routine nature under the direct

supervision of a Plant Mechanic.

Inventories or restocks frequently used supplies and materials.

Maintains activity logs and records of jobs completed and supplies and equipment used.

Also performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain facilities and performs general cleaning/housekeeping maintenance tasks. Works days, but may be called to work weekends, evenings, and weather-related events to perform emergency work as assigned.

Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

All other duties as assigned

Industrial Plant Mechanic I

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs semi-skilled and skilled work as a member of a maintenance crew assisting a high skilled trades person in the accomplishment of industrial plant mechanical maintenance.  Initially, work assignments may be basic, general maintenance activities performed under close supervision (depending upon the employee's prior experience).  As the employee becomes more experienced and knowledgeable, assignments will become more complex and will be performed with greater independence.

May be required to perform emergency repairs after hours, on weekends or holidays.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

May assist in the response to calls for emergency repairs.

Performs routine maintenance and repair work.

Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used.

Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

For Both Positions:

High school diploma or equivalent.  (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.)

Two years of progressively responsible experience working as a mechanic's helper or comparable position is preferred.

Employment offers to all new hires are contingent upon the job candidates successfully passing background, motor vehicle and reference checks, drug screening, and post job offer physicals (that may include pulmonary testing). All applicants are subject to physical assessments as required by job.

Minimum Qualifications for Mechanical Craft Worker Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Basic Windows and computer knowledge and skill level required.

Testing for reading comprehension and basic workplace math calculations, will be administered prior to an interview and/or job offer. Testing scores will be a contributing factor for selection.

Required to workdays, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and weather events as scheduled or needed in accordance with departmental policies.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Possession of a current valid driver license. Possession of a Class A CDL is preferred or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months from date of hire.

Intermediate proficiency in welding; welding certification is desirable but not required.
