Now hiring full‑time Marine Pipe fitters with at least 3+ years of SHIPYARD experience to work at PENSACOLA MARINA.

Job Summary
  • We are seeking a skilled tradesman who can perform the work of developing and laying out, fitting, bolting up, assembling and installing pipe when used to form a part of an assembly in connection with ship construction, alteration, and repair specified by blueprints, work orders, or instructions from supervisor or management.
  • In some cases, and when the job requires assistance, a tacker‑helper will assist the pipefitter.
  • The pipefitter is responsible for building and/or repairing the complete piping systems in a metal ship. The pipefitter has the primary responsibility for manufacturing and installing interior and exterior components such as foundations, hawse pipes, ladders, mast, racks, railing, sea chest, stanchions, stowage’s, tanks, trunks, yardarms, and pipe spools, associated pumps, valves and other components which form the complete ship’s systems.
  • The pipefitter repairs and/or removes damaged ship piping systems and prepares surfaces for welding, burning and lays out holes for drilling.
  • This work is accomplished using miscellaneous hand and power tools.
  • The pipefitter may also be required to perform as a roll operator, punch operator, shear operator, track burner, drill and saw operator.
  • The pipefitter may also have to arrange for staging, crane service, ventilation, lighting, and support services (air, electricity, and water).

Pay

Starts at: $25+/hr. (Depending on level of experience)

Schedule

MON‑THUR 7:30am‑4pm, FRIDAY 7:30am‑3pm. Overtime typically available but not mandatory.

  • Typical working hours are 40 hours per week
  • Work that exceeds 40 hours is considered overtime (and paid at time‑and‑a‑half)
  • A 10‑minute paid morning break is taken at 9:30am daily
  • A 30‑minute unpaid lunch break is provided daily at 11:30am‑12:00pm
New Hires Requirements (Pre‑employment)
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug test
  • Pass a NON‑DOT & Agility physical
  • Complete an OSHA respirator questionnaire (completed at clinic during physical)
  • Participate in random quarterly drug tests

Essential Functions & Physical Demands

Essential function: identify and locate specific components, pipe stock, pumps, etc. to accomplish the assigned daily tasks.

Physical demands: this function primarily involves standing and walking, and carrying on a constant basis while preparing to complete the assigned job. The tacker will have to carry a 50’ welding line, when coiled, which can weigh up to 45 pounds. Multiple lines may need to be carried for distances within the working area. The number of times this function is performed in a given day will vary considerably;

however, a typical day might involve moving to multiple work areas.

Requirements
  • Transportation:
    It is the responsibility of each individual to provide or arrange his or her own transportation to and from the shipyard.
  • Take appropriate safety measures:
    When working from heights or around edges, it’s the responsibility of each employee to ensure sufficient rails, lanyards, harnesses, UV protection, and ventilation as per OSHA and company policy.
  • All workers are required to wear safety equipment including: hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, and safety toed shoes. Respirators and fall protection are to be worn when working in areas that require additional protection.
  • Standard practice for all employees: employees are often required to perform other jobs beyond the essential functions of their primary job. These jobs could consist of, but not be limited to, assisting other employees in cleaning and picking up debris from other areas where work is performed, partnering with employees to complete work with more stringent deadlines, and filling in temporarily for an absent employee.
