The Fleet Mechanic position is responsible for maintaining vehicle/equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle/equipment deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records. The position works under the direction of the Fleet Manager and is accountable for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and facility vehicle/equipment to support daily work activities while maintaining safety objectives and company processes.

Available to work Saturdays as needed; 8-10 hour shifts.

Essential Job Functions
  • Ability to work on construction vehicle/equipment.
  • Able to determine vehicle/equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps vehicle/equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Corrects vehicle/equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub‑assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Verifies vehicle/equipment performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle/equipment requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle/equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle/equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop vehicle/equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Desired Qualifications
  • Must be willing to travel to different branch locations as needed using company‑provided service truck; may require occasional overnight stay.
  • ASE Certified preferred but not mandatory.
  • Must have electrical and drivability diagnostic experience – Required.
  • 1–3 years of mechanic experience with diesel and gas engines for on‑highway vehicles.
  • Light/Medium/Heavy‑Duty vehicle & trailer repair experience – Required.
  • Off‑highway equipment experience such as front‑end loaders, skid steers, mini excavators, forklifts.
  • Experience performing annual federal DOT inspections.
  • Class A CDL preferred but not mandatory.

Requirements
  • Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day, standing and walking for extended periods, loading and unloading equipment, walking on varying surfaces, and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Working from elevated platforms, ladders, or truck beds.
  • Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity with keyboards and smartphones, physical agility to use arms, legs, and hands repetitively.
  • Working outdoors and safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions, including high‑speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes, and construction substances.
  • Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction sites.
