HVAC Technician
This role focuses on designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex commercial and industrial HVAC systems within a large plant environment. The technician will work with boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, and building management systems while supporting overall facility operations through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and project work.
Shift: 6am - 3pm
Pay Rate: $25 - 35/hr
Responsibilities
- Design, install, maintain, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including HVAC/R equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair boilers, heating systems, chillers, and other related mechanical components.
- Perform industrial preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Manage HVAC-related projects, ensuring completion within established deadlines and budget constraints.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS) to optimize building performance and energy efficiency.
- Conduct painting and carpentry work as needed for HVAC installation, modification, and repair.
- Interpret and implement Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems as they relate to HVAC installations and operations.
- Work on plumbing systems associated with HVAC equipment to ensure proper function and integration.
- Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on HVAC and refrigeration systems and clearly communicate findings and solutions to internal stakeholders.
- Apply a strong foundation in construction and mechanical systems when planning and executing HVAC work.
- Utilize knowledge of boilers, ventilation, refrigerants, and plumbing systems to support safe and efficient HVAC operation.
- Contribute to energy management initiatives through effective system operation and maintenance.
- Operate various control systems, including those related to fire alarms and fire and life safety, as they pertain to HVAC systems.
- Apply understanding of refrigeration principles, electrical equipment, and cooling towers in daily work.
- Follow engineering design processes and adhere to safety training practices and facility safety standards at all times.
Essential Skills
- Valid HVAC/Refrigeration license.
- 3–5 years of commercial HVAC experience; industrial HVAC experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC/R in commercial or industrial environments (not limited to residential work).
- Experience performing industrial preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnostics for boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, and HVAC/R equipment.
- Experience as a boiler technician, chiller technician, refrigeration technician, HVAC/R technician, or industrial HVAC technician.
- Strong foundation in construction and mechanical systems related to HVAC.
- Expertise in boilers, ventilation systems, refrigerants, and plumbing systems associated with HVAC.
- Proficiency in project management and energy management related to HVAC operations.
- Ability to operate Building Management Systems and other control systems.
- Ability to work with fire alarm and fire and life safety-related control systems as they pertain to HVAC.
- Understanding of refrigeration principles, electrical equipment, and cooling towers.
- Comprehension of engineering design processes and safety training practices.
- Effective customer and stakeholder interaction skills for discussing issues, solutions, and system performance.
- EAP certification or experience working with EAP-related programs (as applicable).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial HVAC systems in large facilities or plants.
- Experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Exposure to industrial environments and managing HVAC for entire plant operations, including warehouse spaces.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient practices and building performance optimization.
- Ability to perform basic painting and carpentry tasks related to HVAC installations and repairs.
- Comfort working in climate-controlled environments that may still experience temperature variations due to bay doors.
- Strong safety mindset and adherence to facility safety policies and procedures.
- Capability to support potential conversion to a longer-term or permanent role based on performance and business needs.
