Bear General Contractors in Pensacola, FL is looking for Underground Utility Installers. This role is responsible for the installation of underground utility systems, including water, sewer, and storm drainage lines, in commercial construction projects. This role involves a combination of manual labor, operating equipment, and adhering to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Installing and aligning pipes according to project specifications, including water, sewer, and storm drainage lines.
- Trenching and shoring using manual labor and heavy equipment, ensuring proper grade and slope using levels and laser alignment tools.
- Cutting, measuring, and assembling pipes, sealing joints, and ensuring proper connections.
- Back filling trenches and compacting earth to ensure structural stability.
- Operating various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, backhoes, and trenchers, as well as hand and power tools.
- Following OSHA and company safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Working with site supervisors, other crew members, and sometimes engineers and contractors.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues related to underground utilities.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on underground utility systems.
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience as a pipe layer or underground utility installer is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and pipe specifications.
- Understanding of different pipe materials (PVC, ductile iron, concrete, etc.).
- Ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy materials, and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong understanding of trench and shoring safety procedures and other relevant safety regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Locating existing underground utilities using various methods and equipment.
- Working with fiber optic cables and related equipment.
- Using computers for work order management and record-keeping.
