This class assists in the construction of drainage systems on County road projects as determined by a supervisor and/or area of specialty, and may make simple repairs and adjustments to machines and equipment, or maintains all existing traffic control devices, tracks inventory of materials and tools, and ensures map books are updated twice yearly.
This is a "mandatory testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIESRemoves, installs, and/or replaces a variety of items related to the upkeep and maintenance of roads utilizing applicable tools and equipment, which may include signs, traffic control devices, posts, signs, barricades, pipes, forms, cones, parking lot and roadway stripes, and/or other related items. May build forms and pour concrete for applicable roadway projects.
Inspects the placement of road items, reflective devices, and/or potential hazardous situations to ensure effectiveness, safety, quality, and completeness of work or required maintenance needs; ensures compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Receives and responds to complaints and/or questions from citizens, internal departments, and/or other interested parties.
Prepare, reviews, and maintains a variety of files, records, and logs related to daily activities.
Tracks and monitors inventory levels and usage; notifies appropriate individual(s) when inventory needs to be replenished.
Receives and processes a variety of work orders; maintains associated records.
Prepares diagrams for the placement of signs for road closures and/or other related issues.
May inspect and update map books and make appropriate updates.
Performs other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATION Training and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or Equivalent (G.E.D.) and at least six months of specialized or technical training beyond high school and at least six months of experience as an equipment operator or road construction worker, including experience using computers and familiarity with road sign maintenance; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and CertificationsValid Class B Commercial Driver's License
A licensed driver who lives in another state and travels regularly to work in Florida may maintain Operator's/Commercial Driver's License in state of residency.

Read and interpret construction blueprints, specifications, drawings, maps, and/or other Related technical documents.
Operate a variety of specialized and light to heavy equipment
