Financial Controller

• Base Salary: $90,000 – $150,000 (Commensurate with experience & industry match)

The Opportunity:
Controller (Hands-On Lead) Asset Preservation Wealth & Tax ("AP Wealth") is not a typical local advisory firm. We are a nationally recognized, tax-focused wealth management platform managing over $1 billion in assets for 9,000+ households across 11+ offices nationwide. We combine fiduciary investment advice, in-house tax planning, estate planning, and insurance solutions under one roof—driven by a massive media and marketing engine.

We are hiring a Controller to own our accounting function. This is a "Player-Coach" role. We don’t need a delegator who sits in a glass office; we need a tactical leader who will own the G/L, perfect the month-end close, and implement the controls and reporting systems our executive team needs to make decisions. You will transform our accounting from a support function into a strategic asset.

What You Will Build & Own

• The Scalable Engine: You will design and implement the internal controls, AP automation, and intercompany workflows needed to support our expansion into new markets (NV, OR, CO, IN, and beyond).
• Financial Clarity: You will own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, delivering accurate P&Ls by location and entity that help leadership measure profitability.
• Revenue Precision: You will manage complex revenue recognition across diverse streams—AUM fees, tax engagement fees, and insurance commissions—ensuring every dollar is accounted for.
• Cash & Strategy: You will monitor cash flow and partner with the President and Director of Finance to build budgets and forecasts that guide our growth.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• The Hands-On Architect: You are comfortable processing daily transactions and reconciliations because you know accuracy starts in the details, but you have the vision to streamline those processes over time.
• Industry Fluent: You likely have experience in an RIA, CPA firm, or Insurance organization. You understand the nuances of AUM billing, tax-season seasonality, and commission structures.
• Tech-Savvy: You don’t just use Quick Books/Excel; you optimize them. You look for ways to integrate systems and automate manual work.
• Velvet Rope (Who This Is NOT For): This role is not for "delegators-only" who believe manual journal entries are beneath them. It is not for those who prefer a slow, bureaucratic corporate pace. If you are uncomfortable with the complexity of multi-entity books or with rapid growth, this environment will not be a good fit.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a full-charge bookkeeping or Controller role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent expert-level experience).
• Demonstrated mastery of full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Preferred, but not required to be a great fit:
  Experience in Financial Services (RIA, Broker-Dealer, Insurance) or a Tax/CPA practice, and/or a CPA or CMA credential.
