This role offers an opportunity for a skilled Structural Steel Welder to work with heavy-grade structural steel using flux core dual shield welding techniques on 2nd shift. You will focus on high-precision welding with thick wire on material ranging from 1 to over 5 inches, supporting large-scale fabrication projects in a busy industrial welding environment. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent productivity, and the ability to perform repetitive welding tasks while maintaining high quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate structural steel components using heavy-grade metal ranging from 1 to over 5 inches in thickness.
• Perform flux core dual shield welding using thick 3/32 inch wire on structural steel assemblies.
• Measure accurately using a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch to ensure precise fit and alignment.
• Interpret and follow weld symbols on shop drawings to execute correct weld types and locations.
• Operate common welding shop tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate closely with fitters who handle blueprint reading, focusing on executing welds based on provided weld symbols and directions.
• Maintain consistent productivity and independence while performing repetitive welding tasks on identical pieces.
• Sustain high-quality welds in an industrial steel fabrication environment that is dusty, loud, and physically demanding.
• Follow safety procedures and best practices for welding and working in a structural steel shop.
• Contribute to large projects involving significant man hours by meeting deadlines and supporting overall production goals.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated expertise in flux core dual shield welding on thick structural steel.
• Ability to work confidently with heavy structural steel ranging from 1 to 5+ inches thick.
• Strong measurement skills, including reading a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch.
• Proficiency in interpreting shop drawings and weld symbols to perform correct welds.
• Hands-on experience operating welding shop tools and equipment in an industrial environment.
• Capability to maintain focus and weld quality during long periods of repetitive welding tasks.
• Self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently while remaining productive.
• Team-oriented approach with a commitment to completing projects efficiently and with high quality.
• Approximately 3 years of structural welding experience preferred, but not required.
• At least 1 year of flux core welding experience preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with MIG welding and structural steel fabrication.
• Experience in industrial welding and steel fabrication shop environments.
• Familiarity with welds related to structural applications and heavy steel components.
• Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
• Interest in obtaining certifications such as D1.5 seismic and restricted access welding (6G), which will be provided.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled, dusty, and loud fabrication shop.
• Willingness to work 2nd shift hours and overtime as needed.
