Job Summary:
The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides specialized perioperative nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. They ensure patient safety, collaborate with surgical teams, and adhere to professional standards to deliver high-quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, and cultural needs prior to surgery.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, including discharge planning, based on assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Perform and document patient assessments, ensuring timely review of diagnostics and lab results, and communicate abnormal findings to physicians.
- Provide direct patient care, coordinate, delegate, and supervise the activities of healthcare team members to ensure safe, effective perioperative care.
- Evaluate patient responses and procedural outcomes, adjusting care plans accordingly, and educate patients and families on perioperative processes.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and evaluations accurately and promptly in the patient record in compliance with policies and standards.
- Hold a current, valid RN license with a minimum of one year of OR or perioperative nursing experience or enrolled in Peri Op
101 program with successful completion within 4 months. - Possess current BLS and ACLS certifications; PALS certification within 90 days if working with pediatric patients.
- Demonstrate excellent assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills essential for perioperative care.
- Capable of physical maneuvers including standing, lifting up to 75 pounds, and responding quickly to patient needs.
- Maintain proficiency in computer, phone, and medical documentation systems.
