Responsibilities
  • Supervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development; determines and maintains unit or program needs and standards using the nursing process and evidence‑based information.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into their job performance.
  • Assists the Clinical Director in the management of the unit’s assigned staff and patient population.
  • Provides direct patient care according to the needs of the unit/program and collaborates with physicians in executing the medical plan of care.
  • Oversees staff and ensures adequate patient care, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees to ensure productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with the mission, vision, and values.
  • Establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, including administering medication, checking dosages, and avoiding interactions; starting, maintaining, and discontinuing IV lines; administering therapies and treatments; observing the patient and recording observations; and consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, maintaining financial stewardship and accountability for the department budget.
  • Serves as a resource to others (staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, visitors) to improve the patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment.
  • Teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explain post‑treatment and home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self‑administration of medication and therapy.
  • Facilitates inter‑ and intra‑departmental collaboration, communication, and promotes problem solving.
  • Participates in policy revisions and committees applicable to the department.
  • Participates in the creation, implementation, and follow‑up of goals and action planning related to the unit.
  • Contributes to recruitment and retention of talented staff through positive role‑modeling, fostering relationships, staff education, and participation in preceptor and/or mentor programs.
  • Coordinates educational and professional activities as they relate to department/unit needs.
  • Regularly rounds with physicians, patients, or families to facilitate quality practice and improve the patient experience.
  • Utilizes the nursing process and evidence‑based practice to provide patient care and evaluate the patient’s plan of care.
  • Initiates and supports quality improvement initiatives and utilizes resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Directs staff in the application of the nursing process, provides direction, coordinates patient care, promotes, and enhances independent functioning among employees.

Education
  • BSN/BScN:
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution – Required
  • Other/Certificate:
    Legally licensed to work as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona – Required
  • Other/Certificate:
    All staff with direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients – Refer to addendum for stroke‑specific education requirements – Required
Experience
  • 2 years Registered Nurse (RN) – Required
  • 3 years Registered Nurse (RN) – Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Certification, Basic Life Support BLS Healthcare Provider Training Course – Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – State License/Compact State Licensure – Required
  • Certification in their respective area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion date for magnet standards – 1 Year Required
